It's high time that we make the Switch!
We all know Bamboo for a very long time but whats so special about it? Bamboo is a highly renewable, and is biodegradable as opposed to plastic. And a study says that Plastic can take up to 1000 years to biodegrade and is the leading cause of mass pollution all over the world.
We've heard about Air pollution, Water pollution and the amount of damage they can cause to the environment, wild life and also to us humans.
As if that is not enough, we are now responsible for Plastic pollution. But we never wondered what it is and how are we responsible for that.
So here it is: Simply put, Plastic pollution is when plastic has gathered in an area and has begun to negatively impact the natural environment and create problems for plants, wildlife, and even to us, Humans.
Plastic has become an integral part of our lives but at a heavy price, in the below ways:
50% of plastic is never reused or recycled.
It takes up to 1000 years for plastic to biodegrade.
Over 1 million plastic bags are used every minute in the world.
Creating plastic requires fossil fuels (oil), which increases our planet’s carbon emissions.
Over 17 billion pounds (8 billion kilograms) of plastic end up in the ocean every year.
Innocent animals feeding on the plastic waste that we use and throw on the roads is a very normal sight.
And a walk on the beach is not a beautiful sight anymore as at every step, bottles, cans, bags, lids and straws (just to name a few) are ever-present.
This is a menace now and it's high time we fight against it and it is the responsibility of each individual and also companies all over.
The problems become from bad to worse unless we reduce the use of plastic and find ways to replace it with a more eco-friendly, sustainable solution. That’s where bamboo comes in.
Bamboo, traditionally considered as Poor man's timber is actually a grass and acts similar to a weed in terms of how quickly it can grow and where it can live.
Bamboos include some of the fastest-growing plants on Earth, with reported growth rates up to 910 mm (36 in) in 24 hours.
Just imagine, one fine day you've decided to plant a Bamboo, so you plant it in the morning, water it, and when you come back next day morning, you would see it has already grown up by 3 feet. OMG!!
In general bamboo is very durable. The outer layer of the stem is quite dense and strong. Bamboo is both flexible and elastic. As a result items made from bamboo tend to be very resilient and resist breaking when placed under stress.
Some of the other features of Bamboo are:
It is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal apart from bio-degradable.
It can grow without fertilizers or pesticides and in many different kinds of environments.
It is an extremely durable material.
It produces 35% more oxygen compared to similar plants.
It naturally helps rebuild eroded soil.
All these features make Bamboo products a very good weapon for fighting the plastic menace and thus highly beneficial to our environment.
Not just this, but they also look very well for decorating our homes and in fact building one.
There are many ways we can use Bamboo and we at Sampradayik have got few Bamboo products that you can use in your daily routine right from the start of your day till you relax at the end to a soothing music.
